751.1 - TRANSPORTATION BY BUS
Students in K-3rd grade shall be picked up where their driveway meets the township or county road. Students in grades 4-12 may be asked to walk a maximum of .25 mile if deemed necessary when bus routes are determined. Parents will be notified of this during the routing process. An exception to this rule is to be made when it is determined jointly by Jim's Bus Service and the Superintendent that the .25 mile distance will create a potential medical or physical hazard to the student(s). A parent may appeal the joint decision to the Board of Education. Students in Grades 4-12 who reside in homes served by town roads, having a greater distance than .25 mile, and leading into private driveways (dead-ends), would have bus service. The distance would be measured from edge of main road, to where public and private lines meet. In these cases buses would use town roads into private yards to turn-around. The .25 mile distance would also apply to a student(s) living on a town road where the bus route does not go past.Where students qualify for over .25 mile transportation, driveways and roadways would have to be wide enough for safe travel, roads kept clear of mud, deep ruts, and plowed in winter months. Failure to provide these conditions will allow the Bus Service to modify home pickup after consultation with the Superintendent and/or School Board.
Private driveways would not be serviced by the bus service. In case of turnarounds at private drives, only the end of the driveway would be used.
