724.1 - PROCEDURES FOR MANAGING INJURIES/FIRST AID
Help the injured person self-manage injury for their own bloody nose or cut by holding paper towels over it and applying pressure. Instruct on how to clean up any bodily fluids that are spilled on clothes, surfaces or body.Use protective gloves and place a barrier object between the bodily fluid and yourself if you must render assistance. This can be a piece of clothing, paper towel or tissue.
Use a paper towel to wipe material from exposed skin, paying particular attention to the face. Allow person to rinse mouth, nose and eyes with running water, if possible. Antiseptic towelettes should be used when running water is not available.
Place soiled towels or towelettes in a lined waste container. Urge the person to perform as much of this procedure as possible.
If practical, remove soiled clothing and place in a plastic bag for laundering later.
Assist in cleansing the affected body area.
Remove and dispose of protective gloves and other materials in a lined waste container.
Wash hands thoroughly, following hand washing procedures.
