656.1 - STUDENT LUNCH PURCHASES
The School District of Auburndale shall provide a quality and nutritious school lunch program. School lunch staff will work with State of Wisconsin and Federal Agencies to provide a superior lunch program for the children enrolled in the school district. This program will be centered on good nutritional food and an organized economically efficient program.Annually, the District will post in the District Mirror monthly newsletter free and reduced lunch information. This will include income guidelines and an application for free and reduced meals.
The school lunch program will be managed in a manner to remain financially stable. Students and families owing money to the program will be notified by the school. Each student will have an individual lunch account recorded in the Powerlunch computer system. No student will be allowed to exceed a negative balance of $20.00. These limits will become effective at the beginning of the school year. Existing debt, while not forgiven, will not be included or calculated in the determined maximum amounts.
All elementary students through grade six may charge lunches, as required, to provide necessary lunches for elementary age children. Students with a negative account of $20.00 or more will not be given the privilege of school lunch until the account has been paid down below the $20.00. In this case where an elementary student has lost the privilege of receiving school lunch due to lack of payment, parents will be responsible to provide a carry in lunch daily. All students will be monitored to insure that no student is missing lunch and being deprived of the nutrition needed. All necessary action will be taken by the school to guarantee that no student will miss a meal at lunchtime. This action may include providing the student up to three free sandwich/milk meals and notification to the proper authorities to enforce parents' responsibilities to the children.
Secondary students who have no money in their individual lunch account may be allowed to charge an accumulative maximum of three lunches at the main office without penalty during a school semester under the following procedures: Students are expected to repay each lunch charge promptly and will be billed for failure to repay prior to each grading period. All students who utilized two lunch charges will receive a written notification sent to the parents notifying them that their child will be allowed one additional charge during the current school semester. All students who have received a third lunch charge during any semester period will be denied all further access to lunch charges for the duration of that particular semester. A written notification will be sent to the parents notifying them that their child will no longer be entitled to charge lunches during the semester that the third lunch charge was used.
At the end of the school year, any money remaining in the student's lunch account will be carried over to the next school year. The only exceptions are: 1) student has graduated, 2) student leaves the district.
The School District of Auburndale shall not discriminate against any person on the basis of an individual's sex, race, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, mental, emotional, or learning disability in the educational programs or activities which it operates.
