453.3 - COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL
Communicable disease control procedures shall be maintained in cooperation with the local health department, who shall be notified at once by any teacher, school nurse or principal who knows or suspects that a communicable disease is present in a district school.Students who are suspected of having a communicable disease may be sent home by a teacher, principal or school nurse for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. If this action occurs, the parents or guardians of such students shall be notified immediately of the action and the reasons for the action.
All information reported under this policy shall remain confidential except as may be needed for the purposes of investigation, control or prevention of communicable diseases.
Students who have contracted communicable diseases will not be re-admitted to school until such time as it is determined by health care officials that the risk of transmission has subsided.
In an effort to reduce the risk of transmission of communicable or other infectious diseases in the schools, guidelines shall be developed for handling body fluids. These guidelines shall be made available to all school district staff members.
