422.1 - ADMISSION OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS
A maximum enrollment of foreign exchange students will be restricted only in the event their enrollment within the secondary school and/or classroom (subjects) will supersede the recommended maximum enrollment of a particular subject, student class enrollment, and/or distract from the learning process of the Auburndale students. Exceptions to this rule shall be approved by the Auburndale School District Board of Education.1. Each foreign exchange student shall be represented by a bona fide organization recognized by the Auburndale Board of Education.
2. The Auburndale School District shall receive an application from eligible foreign exchange students no later than 30 days prior to the start of a current school year. Applicants not meeting the deadline must be approved by the Auburndale Board of Education.
3. The organization sponsoring the foreign exchange student shall:
A) provide the school district with documentation that the foreign exchange student is English proficient,
B) host families must be identified to Board at time of application and have a secondary student presently
attending Auburndale,
C) provide the school district with the name, address, and telephone number of an area representative for
the sponsoring organization,
D) provide the school district with documentation that the student has health and accident insurance
coverage with a company affiliated with a U.S. insurance underwriter,
E) provide an area representative that will physically come to the Auburndale High School at least four
times each academic year to discuss the academic progress, social progress, or any problems that
school officials may have concerning the foreign exchange student,
F) provide academic records, health records, and immigration records on the foreign exchange student at
the time of application,
G) provide the school district with the arrival and departure dates of the foreign exchange student,
encourage the student to begin with the Auburndale School District calendar,
H) foreign exchange students who plan on enrolling in drivers training must present proof of insurability,
I) grades and course credit shall not be required for completion of degree required in their home
country/school,
J) to be eligible for athletic/co-curricular participation, the foreign exchange student must meet all WIAA
requirements and be approved by the WIAA.
The Auburndale Board of Education will have the right to terminate this agreement if any of the above provisions are not fulfilled or the foreign exchange student violates the rules and regulations established for student conduct.
Foreign exchange students recognized as seniors may participate in the graduation ceremony and will receive a certificate of attendance. Those foreign exchange students that meet all the graduation requirements set by the School District of Auburndale shall receive a standard high school diploma. In order to be eligible for top-15 honors, a foreign exchange student must have attended the Auburndale School District for his/her junior and senior year.
