SEVERE WEATHER CANCELLATIONS
In the event severe weather threatens the health and safety of the Auburndale School District students, it may become necessary to cancel school or delay the start time for the buses. The Wisconsin Highway Patrol and Wood County Sheriff’s Department are contacted for road reports. Neighboring school districts are contacted for their view of the situation. Based on this information, a decision is made together by the administrative staff of the district (superintendent, finance director, principals) and the bus contractor.
Once school is in session, extreme caution is used to cancel classes for the day as many children will be returning to an empty household. The bus contractor needs a minimum of a one-hour notice to locate and arrange for drivers for an early dismissal.
If early dismissal becomes necessary, it is important for families with younger children to have a pre-arranged plan of what to do if school is let out earlier than the normal time due to severe weather conditions or other emergency.
The decision to cancel school is immediately relayed to the following television and radio stations: WAOW-TV, WEAU-TV, WSAW-TV, WDLB/WLJY/WOSQ, WAXX/WAYY, WGNV, WFHR/WGLX, WSAU/WIFC, WSPT/WSPO, WYTE, WIZD/WRIG/WOFM/WDEZ, WYCO/WXCO. Please listen to one of these stations for announcements. Please do not call the schools or the bus contractor. This will keep phone lines open between the school and the bus contractor for decision-making communications.
In addition to the above radio/TV stations, parents will also be directly notified via phone, with the districts School Reach Instant Parent Contact program.
