Pizza Pizza and PTO
Beginning February 9th the PTO will be starting their annual fundraiser. We will be selling Little Caesar’s Pizza products again this year. This is our ONLY fundraiser of the year!!! Last year we raised $7,500 and this year our goal is $10,000! We have some fantastic prizes this year, including $200.00 cash or an I-Pod touch to the top seller! This fundraiser is to help raise money for our annual budget to get us through the rest of this school year and most of next school year. So far this school year the PTO has used funds for back to school night, family reading night magician, folders for students, fieldtrips, school assemblies, and money was given to teachers to purchase books, rewards, and supplies for their classrooms. PTO has also helped purchase a new piece of playground equipment for the 4K-2 playground. If you would like more information on the fundraiser or have any questions or new ideas you would like to share for future fundraising, please feel free to come to our next PTO meeting on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. Thank you very much in advance for supporting the Auburndale Parent Teacher Organization!
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, February 9th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday February 10th, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. Conferences will be scheduled by appointment only at the elementary school. This eliminates lengthy waiting times and is convenient for most parents. Ten or fifteen minutes to review your child’s past three months is a tall order! Make the most of parent-teacher conference time by following these four easy tips:
· Take notes. Before the conference, jot down any concerns you have about your child, along with questions about the curriculum. Take your notes along as a reminder.
· Be on time. Teachers are usually on a tight schedule for conferences. If you’re punctual, you’ll have the maximum talk time.
· Stay calm. If there are problems, focus on ways to work with the teacher on solutions. Kids benefit when parents and teachers are on the same page.
· Plan the next step. Discuss how you will follow up on issues raised. You could exchange e-mail addresses or phone numbers (jot down best times to talk) or schedule another meeting.
100th Day of School~~~February 3rd, 2012
Winter Weather Closings
Don’t let school closings catch you off guard! Make sure you have a plan for your child if school closes early and they know what to expect.
Watch the local T.V. stations, listen to the radio, or check on-line with T.V. and radio stations for closing times. DO NOT call the school, as this only ties up the phone lines and keeps the school from making necessary phone calls.
Closing school early is an important decision for the school to make, and done only in the best interest of the children. The quickest way to hear about it is through the radio and T.V. stations.
Reading at Home
Did you know that an on level reader should be reading at least 90 minutes a day? Often times we find ourselves as parents using video games and television to fill in the down time when we ourselves need to get things done around the house. How about having your child earn screen time. If he wants to watch television, have him read for 20 minutes in order to earn 20 minutes. Better yet, how about reading for 40 minutes to earn 20 minutes of screen time?
