834 - USE OF SCHOOL FOREST

The School Forest’s primary use and goal is for environmental education of the students of the School District of Auburndale.  Recreational use by the public is encouraged if it does not disrupt the environment and is not in conflict with school use.  School classes and groups shall have first priority.

The School Forest facilities will be available for public use from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. November 1st through March 31st and 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. April 1st through October 31st.  Use by the general public will be prohibited at other hours with the exception of groups who are staying overnight and/or organizations that have rented the facilities and have special written authorization from the District Administrator.

Campfires shall be restricted to the fire pit.  Cutting of trees is prohibited; however the gathering of dead branches or cutting a deadfall tree for the purpose of building a campfire is acceptable.  During a DNR specified or school authorized fire ban, no burning will be allowed.

The use of motorized recreational vehicles, such as ATV’s or UTV’s, motorcycles, mopeds, and snowmobiles, on the School Forest property is prohibited.  Any exception requires prior written authorization from the District Administrator.

Hunting will not be allowed when school or rental groups are on the property. (See Policy 834.1 for specific hunting regulations.)

Rules and regulations of the School District of Auburndale apply at the School Forest.  No smoking, use of drugs or alcoholic beverages, vandalism, or disorderly conduct will be permitted.

School District officials shall have full authority to enforce proper and safe conduct of all persons and activities on school property.

Questions or concerns regarding use shall be directed to the District Administrator.
