The contracted bus service provided by the District to transport students between their homes and schools within the district is intended for district residents. The District is not required to transport open enrollment students. The parent/guardian of a nonresident open enrollment student is, by law, responsible for the transportation of their child to and from a non-resident school.
The District may elect to transport non-resident open enrollment students provided there is space on existing bus routes and any additional time and/or cost of such transportation is not excessive. The District may, but is not required to, and in some cases, not allowed to pick up students in another school district. The District reserves the right to determine the pickup and drop-off locations of all non-resident open enrollment students that may be transported by the district.
The transportation of non-resident open enrollment students on regularly scheduled bus routes is a privilege and not a right. A non-resident open enrollment student will not be transported unless the parent/guardian of the non-resident open enrollment student and/or student agrees in writing to follow all bus rules as enumerated in the student handbook and abide by the following discipline procedure regarding any violation of bus rider rules.
1st offense – verbal and written warning
2nd offense – temporary loss of riding privileges (1-10 days suspension)
3rd offense – loss of riding privileges for the remainder of the school term
The non-resident student may apply for transportation services the following year. However, should the student receive a 3rd offense the second year, the student will lose his/her riding privileges indefinitely. Administration reserves the right to modify these consequences based on the individual needs of the student.
The District retains the right to deny any request or cancel an open enrollment student’s ridership at any time for any reason.
