Admission of non-traditional students whose previous educational background has been either partially restricted or limited to a non-formal setting, or a private school setting which does not provide state certified instructors and/or transcripts, shall be determined by the following criteria. Examples of such institutions shall be, but not limited to, alternatives schools, home based education and private schools.
Students requesting admission in grades K-8 will be appropriately grade placed, based upon on the recommendation of a placement team.
Immediate placement shall be based upon chronological age, with final placement made as soon as possible, not to exceed twenty (20) school days. Items which must be considered are chronological age, functional achievement level, social maturity, and parental and student interviews. Final recommendations will be submitted to the superintendent for review and final recommendation. All recommendations are subject to review at the completion of the first complete 45 day grading cycle. Students so placed shall be expected to demonstrate classroom academic skills commensurate with the student placement. During this time, if determined by the school placement team, the original placement needs to be revised, the placement made will be modified.
K-6, placement team shall consisting of: building principal; elementary guidance counselor; grade level teacher(s); psychologists and reading specialists.
Students requesting admission in grades 9-12 will be appropriately grade placed, based upon the recommendation of a placement team consisting of: building principal; secondary guidance counselor; grade level teacher(s); psychologists; pupil service director and elementary reading specialists.
Immediate placement shall be based upon chronological age, parental and student interviews. Final placement shall be determined by data gathered by the placement team. This data may be developed from a variety of sources, including standardized tests, previous records, parental and student interviews. Items which must be considered are chronological age, functional achievement level, social maturity and the state of Wisconsin and Auburndale School District graduation standards. Non transferable credits will be identified for determination of class placement and required number of credits to complete graduate requirements. No credits determined by the placement committee will be used to determine class rank and/or grade point average. These classes shall not appear in official transcripts, or be provided to any requesting institutions. No student, admitted under definition of this policy, may earn a diploma from the Auburndale Schools, unless they have earned a minimum of 6 credits from this school district. Final placement shall be made as soon as possible, not to exceed twenty (20) school days. Final recommendations will be submitted to the superintendent for review and recommendation.
