Each year, a member of the senior class shall be determined to be the valedictorian and salutatorian of that senior class. The valedictorian shall be the student who has obtained the highest grade point average according to the following guidelines. The salutatorian shall be the student who has obtained the second highest grade point average as determined under the following guidelines.
1. The students must have attended Auburndale Senior High School for a minimum of three complete consecutive semesters prior to his/her senior year, which must be completed as a full time student enrolled at Auburndale High School.
2. Home schooled students that enroll at Auburndale High School must have completed a program accredited by the State of Wisconsin DPI. The student must still meet the three consecutive semester guideline as described above. Students will be enrolled in the appropriate courses/grade after completion of the Woodcock-Johnson test of achievement, third edition.
3. The highest grade point average shall be determined by calculating semester grades in each course taken from first semester grade 9 through first semester grade 12. Transfer grades not accepted for credit will be omitted from the computation. All grades will be calculated using the Auburndale Senior High School grade point system.
4. If two or more students have the same grade point average, calculated to the fourth decimal place, the following criteria, in rank order, shall be used to determine the valedictorian and/or salutatorian.
a.) Should two or more students have a 4.0000 grade point average calculated using the Auburndale Senior High School grade point system, co-valedictorian awards will be given. Even if two or more students have a 4.0000 grade point average and are awarded co-valedictorian honors, a salutatorian award will be presented employing the same tie breaker process as employed for the valedictorian should one exist.
b.) Should two or more students have the same grade point that is lower than a 4.0000, the student with the highest number of credits earned in grades (9) through (12) shall be selected. This includes all electives all non-elective classes, i.e., band, chorus, drivers’ education, physical education, etc.)
c.) If all students involved in the tie have or will have completed the ACT Test by the beginning of their eighth semester, the student with the highest composite ACT score shall be selected. If one or more of the students completed more than one ACT testing, the initial testing will be the score that is considered for the tie breaker.
d.) If a tie still exists between two or more students, the valedictorian or salutatorian honors will be shared.
5. The School District's Board of Education will nominate the high school senior for the Academic Excellence Higher Education Scholarship in accordance with Wisconsin State Statute 39.41.
