321.1 - STUDENT ACTIVITIES - SCHEDULING

It is the belief of the School Board of the School District of Auburndale that student activities must be properly scheduled and coordinated. Parents should be given accurate notification of any activities that their children may be involved in outside the normally scheduled school day as well as any student field trips scheduled during the normal school day. The purpose of this policy is not to create any hardships for the school educational staff, but is intended to promote communication, organization, punctuality, and cooperation.

The following guidelines will be followed by the school district and staff members.

1. Parents must be informed of any activities that their child will be involved in beyond the normal school day as well as class field trips. In grades 4K-6, this should be in the form of a written communication to the parents. In all cases, this information should be supplied through the students to the parents at least 48 hours in advance of the activity.

2. In the event of a situation in which students will be scheduled to eat a meal outside the district, advance parent notification will be provided.

3. In the event that the students are scheduled to be eating a meal outside the district, the schedule must be followed unless inclement or the threat of inclement weather conditions dictate a change in plans. Example: an athletic team scheduled to eat after an athletic contest must stop for that meal unless weather conditions come up that indicate the delay for a meal stop would be hazardous to travel.

4. When an activity, such as a practice has been scheduled to dismiss the student at a specified time; that time must be adhered to as closely as possible.

5. In scheduling student activities, an attempt must be made to coordinate activities to not conflict with another scheduled activity that the same students may be involved in.

6. A student having a responsibility to attend more than one school activity should not be penalized in any way or form for his or her absence from the activity not attended because of attending another.

7. Wednesday evenings are reserved for adult only activities. All student activities, both school and non-school related, shall end by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings.

8. Student activities involving Middle School or younger students in non-school programs shall end by 8:00 p.m. on all days of the week with the exception of Wednesday when all activities will end by 6:00 p.m.

9. No Sunday morning extracurricular practices will be allowed.
